Since joining Blackstone in 2007, Mr. Newman has worked on various assignments in the financial services industry, including the sales of Quadra Realty Trust to Hypo Real Estate Group, AIG’s commodity index business to UBS AG, AIG’s insurance premium finance businesses to Wintrust Financial Corp. and PFS Inc., Pinebridge Investments to Pacific Century Group and several strategic initiatives within the asset management industry on behalf of Blackstone, including the firm's purchase of a minority interest in Patria Investimentos and the transfer of the closed-end funds management business of Blackstone Asia Advisors to Aberdeen Asset Management. Mr. Newman has also advised the Delaware Department of Insurance on the affiliation of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Delaware and Highmark Inc. and the Pennsylvania Insurance Department on the proposed affiliation of Highmark Inc. and West Penn Allegheny Health System Inc.
Prior to joining Blackstone, Mr. Newman worked in the mergers and acquisitions advisory practice at PricewaterhouseCoopers, where he provided financial diligence, valuation and structuring services to a broad range of clients in the industrial, healthcare and financial services industries.
Mr. Newman received an MBA with a concentration in economics from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, where he graduated with high honors, and received a BS in finance and accounting from Bowling Green State University. Mr. Newman holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation.
