In addition to our U.S.-based volunteer days, each year Blackstone employees worldwide give back to their local communities through Blackstone’s Global Volunteer Days. This year, employees from Blackstone’s offices in Dublin, Hong Kong, London, Mexico City, Mumbai, Singapore and Tokyo volunteered over 750 hours with 7 outstanding organizations.
On November 1st, 10 employees from the Dublin office volunteered with Dublin Simon Community, which works to prevent and address homelessness in Dublin and surrounding areas. Employees supported the organization by participating in “Sorting Simon’s Stock,” where employees organized donated items and helped ready them to be distributed to those in need.
On October 28th, 52 employees from the Hong Kong Office volunteered at Lingnan Secondary school. Employees worked directly with students, participating in career talks, mock interviews and resume reviews. In addition, Blackstone employees networked with the students. This volunteer event was organized through a new partnership with Project WeCan, a Business-in-Community initiative to connect businesses with students at under resourced schools.
As in past years, a team of 50 Blackstone employees from the London office volunteered with Centrepoint, an organization dedicated to providing shelter and support services for homeless and underemployed youth in the UK. Volunteers helped to set up for Sleep Out, Centrepoint’s annual fundraiser where volunteers raise money by “sleeping out” for a night. In addition, a few Blackstone volunteers participated in the Sleep Out, and raised over $28,000 for the organization, making Blackstone the number one fundraising team.
On October 15th, 21 Blackstone employees from the Mexico City office volunteered with Koncientizando, an animal shelter that cares for abused and abandoned cats and dogs, providing them with a home, food, veterinary supplies and necessary services. Volunteers spent the morning cleaning up the facilities and working directly with the animals. At the end of the day, volunteers donated supplies for the shelter, including toys, beds, and cleaning products.
On December 10th, 26 Blackstone employees volunteered with Muktangan, an organization focused on provided quality education to children in India. Volunteers worked with over 80 students at an elementary school, engaging in both academic activities as well as more competitive games.
On November 30th, 46 volunteers from the Blackstone Singapore office volunteered with raiSE, an organization that strengthens the social enterprise sector in Singapore and encourages the growth of social enterprises as a sustainable way to address social needs. Blackstone employees worked directly with the social entrepreneurs, offering them coaching and guidance on various parts of their business plans.
On October 14th, 17 employees from the Blackstone Tokyo office volunteered with Playground of Hope. Specifically, they worked at Koyama Home Orphanage working to make the outside of the building more functional and beautiful for the children who live there. Employees replaced and installed a new basketball hoop and put together benches. They improved the baseball field, and provided new baseball equipment for the team. In addition, they also helped prepare a delicious BBQ dinner event together with the children.
