Martin Alderson Smith is a Senior Managing Director in our Corporate Development and Strategy group.
Since joining Blackstone in 1991, Mr. Alderson Smith has worked on an array of projects, both for third-party clients as well as on behalf of the firm. Advisory assignments have included the acquisition of Sanford C. Bernstein by Alliance Capital Management; the sale of Banco Patrimonio to Chase Manhattan Bank; the establishment of a retirement services joint venture between the asset management divisions of Citigroup and the State Street Corporation; the sale of Wells Fargo Nikko Investment to Barclays Bank; and the sale of Gartmore to National Westminister Bank. Since 2007, Mr. Alderson Smith has also worked closely with Blackstone senior management on the acquisition of new asset management platforms, divestitures of certain businesses, and the firm’s IPO.
Before joining Blackstone, Mr. Alderson Smith was with First Boston in London and New York for eight years.
Mr. Alderson Smith holds a MA from Oxford University and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
